What is fulfillment status?
Fulfillment status in Printify shows the stage an order is in, from the moment it’s placed to final delivery. Each stage reflects where the order is in production, shipping, or delivery.
Pre-production statuses
- On hold – The order is paused before production due to payment, review, stock issues, or approval settings, and edits are still possible.
- Sending to production – The order is being sent to the printer and can no longer be edited.
Production statuses
- In production – The supplier is creating, customizing, and packaging the order.
- Has issues – A problem during production requires review or resolution.
- Canceled – The order has been canceled by the supplier, store owner, or customer.
Shipping statuses
- Ready to ship – The order is packaged and waiting for courier pickup.
- Shipped – The courier has collected the package, and tracking information is available.
- On the way – The package is in transit to its destination.
- Out for delivery – The courier is on their way to the customer.
- Delivered – The package has successfully reached the customer.
- Available for pickup – The package is at a different pickup location after an unsuccessful delivery attempt.
- Delivery attempt – The courier attempted to deliver the package, but wasn’t successful. Delivery may be rescheduled or rerouted.
- Shipping issue – There is a problem preventing delivery, such as a lost package or customs delay.
- Return to sender – The order is being returned after unsuccessful delivery attempts.
Difference between order status and fulfillment status
Order status shows the overall state of an order in your store, while fulfillment status tracks the step-by-step process of getting that order to the customer.
Order status | Fulfillment status |
Indicates the high-level state of the order (e.g., open, canceled, archived). | Indicates the specific stage in the production and delivery process. |
Changes when the order is placed, canceled, completed, or archived. | Updates as the order moves from production to shipping to delivery. |
Does not show detailed shipping progress. | Shows detailed shipping and handling updates. |
Outsourcing order fulfillment
When a business outsources order fulfillment, it never handles in-house storage and packing. Instead, the supplier ships products directly from the fulfillment center to the customer.
Even if you outsource, you should still check the fulfillment status to ensure your supplier consistently meets your expectations. Share tracking numbers with customers so they can follow their order status, too.

Orders without tracking number
If an order is marked as fulfilled but there’s no tracking number, it generally means the order has been shipped and is on its way to the customer. When working with reputable carriers and fulfillment partners, the product will arrive safely even without tracking details.
